Kyrgyzstan is set to host one of the largest cultural and sporting celebrations in the region — the VI World Nomad Games in 2026. According to regional sources, the grand opening ceremony will take place on August 31 in Bishkek, while the final competitions and official closing events are scheduled for September 6 on the scenic shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. The event is expected to draw global attention, once again placing Kyrgyzstan at the heart of the nomadic world.

Organisers anticipate the participation of delegations from more than 89 countries, making the Games a truly international gathering. Each nation will have the opportunity to present its unique traditions, cultural heritage, and athletic excellence. Over the years, the World Nomad Games have evolved into more than just a sporting event — they have become a powerful platform for cultural dialogue, uniting nations through shared history, ancient traditions, and mutual respect.

The program will feature spectacular disciplines that reflect the spirit of nomadic civilization. Among them are horseback competitions symbolizing freedom and life on the степpe, traditional archery as one of the oldest martial arts, and various forms of wrestling that test strength and endurance. Visitors will also witness hunting traditions with golden eagles and competitions involving Taigan dogs, showcasing the deep connection between nomadic peoples and their loyal companions.

The official program begins on August 30 with the arrival of delegations in Bishkek via Manas International Airport and the city’s railway station. On September 1, accredited participants will transfer from Bishkek to Cholpon-Ata in the Issyk-Kul region, where the main competitions will take place. The peak of the event is expected on September 5 and 6, when finals in major disciplines and the official closing ceremony will take place against the breathtaking backdrop of the Tien Shan mountains and the crystal-clear waters of Issyk-Kul. The Games will conclude on September 7 with the departure of international delegations from Cholpon-Ata back to Bishkek.
