This 6-day overland journey connects Samarkand (Uzbekistan) with the most scenic parts of Tajikistan’s Fann Mountains and finishes in Tashkent. The itinerary is designed for active travelers who want a balanced combination of nature, hiking, culture, and comfortable overnight stays. The tour begins with a transfer from Samarkand to Tajikistan via the Jartepa border. After visiting the ancient UNESCO-listed settlement of Sarazm and stopping at the Panjakent market, you continue into the mountains to explore the famous Seven Lakes (Haft Kul). A picnic by the highest lake and a short acclimatization hike introduce you to the alpine landscapes of the region. From there, the route leads to Artuch Base Camp for a full-day hike to the Kulikalon Lakes (14 km round trip, 800 m elevation gain). This scenic trail passes through juniper forests and opens to panoramic views of turquoise alpine lakes surrounded by dramatic peaks. The journey continues to Iskandarkul, one of Tajikistan’s most iconic lakes. You will hike to Snake Lake and Alexander Waterfall and have free time to relax by the water or walk along the shoreline. In Sarytag Valley, a moderate hike (10 km, 240 m elevation gain) offers insight into rural mountain life. The tour then transitions from alpine scenery to northern Tajikistan’s cultural center, Khujand, where you explore historical landmarks and the local bazaar. The trip concludes with a cross-border transfer to Tashkent, where you enjoy a comfortable 4-star hotel stay before airport departure. This itinerary is ideal for travelers seeking authentic mountain experiences, moderate hiking routes, and seamless logistics between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
